The Secret To Staying Motivated When Life Gets Busy

Most that start a new diet or exercise program have a hard time sticking with it. Learn the keys to staying consistent when life gets int he way.

Do you know what most people struggle with when starting a new diet or exercise program?

It isn't knowledge.  There might be too much information out there and it can mucky the water, but I believe most understand what they need to do.  The problems that really messes people up is consistency and accountability.

Some might say that they lose motivation and quit after a while.  This might have some truth to it, but if you are relying on motivation to be successful, you are in trouble from the start.

Like in many things in life, when the "honeymoon" phase is over, that is when your plan really begins.  It is easy in the beginning when things are new and fresh.  But give it a few weeks and see how quickly all of that changes.

This is why the true secret to being successful with diet and exercise is consistency and accountability.

It's not fancy (and can sometimes be boring) but when you show up and do the simple things most days of the week, it works.

Your strategy from the beginning should be to find ways to be consistent and have some accountability.

When you decide on a new program, your first thought is can I realistically, consistently do this?  If the answer is 100% yes, then go for it.  If you don't think so, then it is time to modify until the answer is yes.

If you are the type of person that needs motivation to help you along the way, you can still use it.  Just be smart about how you set things up.

Stat with short term goals and track progress.  These things will often keep you motivated.  When you set only long term goals it is really hard to stay motivated because the finish line is so far away.  But when the finish line is in sight you find that motivation you need to push through.

Each week set simple but challenging goals to satisfy that motivational need.  And always track your progress.  This is also a great way to help use motivation to stay consistent.

Once you have a plan that you believe you can consistently do everyday, the next step is having some accountability.

Accountability can come in many forms.  Yes, you can hold yourself accountable, but if you have struggled in the past, this may not be the best option for you.

Typically it will come from someone else.  When you go into things like this completely on your own, it is more likely to go wrong.

A simple way to find accountability is to find someone else that is looking to make a similar change.  They don't have to do the same plan as you, but together you can help each other out.  You are way more likely to stick with something, when someone else is doing it with you.  Find a workout buddy or friend that is going to clean up their diet too.  You would be amazed how you will not only stay consistent, but find yourself helping your friends when they need the push.

You can also just make your goals public.  You don't have to announce it to the world, but simply letting your family and friends know what you are doing.  Don't just tell them, but ask for their help.  Let them know that it will be tough and you will need support to get through it.

Our 8 Week Transformation Program helps with these specific things.   Since we know consistency and accountability are often the two biggest things holding people back, we built it into the plan.
